Homecoming

By Archibald Chauncey on July 20th, 1864

President Lincoln was warmly received upon returning to his home in Springfield.

After visiting with his family for several hours, the President made an appearance before the spirited gathers on his yard.

His brief remarks were met with elation at the hope for a healed Union.

“Hoo-ray for the Union! Hoo-ray for honest Abe!” the revelers cried.
